A short experimental study exploring sound visualization. After working on my master’s project on the same topic I came across an artist Steve Roden and his project some stereo paths (eyes closed listening). His drawings (eyes closed) were made while listening to the recorded soundscapes for a sight specific exhibition. This inspired me to produce my own drawings , with eyes closed, listening to the roaring wind and growing storm outside my window. As nature is often my main source of inspiration and as I became interested in the challenge of portraying elusive and intangible aspects of our lives, this proved to be a truly insigthful project.
Drawings inspired by the landscape. Through colours and shapes I want to capture the feeling and the atmosphere of the landscape, the weather, sounds, scents.
Songbook is the title of my master’s project, on the subject of visualizing sound. The project explores the structure of the book and the idea of portraying sound with a book format. The idea was to make an artist’s book that will add a visual element to the musical piece - inspired by the atmosphere of the music, not the narrative. The video element was an experiment, but I decided to proceed with it as it added a performance quality to the project and tied everything together.
My new concertina book inspired by Neil Gaiman’s poem Going Wodwoo, about ‘leaving the way of words to walk the wood’ and being ‘the forest’s man’.
I’ve loved this poem and Neil Gaiman’s writing for some time and wanted to give it my personal touch.
